Anija Lombard is a soprano born to an Austrian mother and a South African father.
In 2024, she joined the Hungarian State Opera as a member of the Éva Marton International Opera Studio, where she received two years of intensive artistic training. During that time, she studied voice with Kammersängerin Éva Marton. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), studying in the class of Karlheinz Hanser.
Her artistic development began in Brussels, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels with Lena Lootens. Alongside her studies, she was a member of the MM Academy at La Monnaie/De Munt, further gaining valuable experience within a major international opera house. She was also profoundly influenced by her long-standing artistic collaboration with Anna Vittek.
Anija made her debut at the Hungarian State Opera in early 2025 and has since appeared in a wide range of productions, including Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, a Flower Maiden in Wagner’s Parsifal, and Marzelline in Beethoven’s Fidelio. Her engagements have taken her to opera stages in Austria and the Netherlands, as well as to Japan, where she joined the Hungarian State Opera’s summer 2026 tour, performing Papagena in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte.
In the 2026/27 season, she makes her debut as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, marking an important milestone as her first leading role at the Hungarian State Opera.
